ABOUT
Nestled in the heart of Bangalow, The Lumber Yard is a vibrant cultural hub where creativity meets community overlap in a beautiful reimagining of public space. Located on the ancestral lands of the Bundjalung people, it celebrates the rich history and artistry of the Northern Rivers region while establishing a bright and resilient future for the locale and all its generations.
Originally established as a timber yard by the Sharp Brothers in the early 1900s, the site has transformed through various phases, including its time as Stewart’s Hardware.
Today, The Lumber Yard combines sensory experiences—music, the aroma of food and coffee, and the visual beauty of eminent craftsmanship—with consideration for social, economic, and environmental resilience, fostering a place for all to enjoy that works with Country and the natural landscape.
Beneath festoon lights strung between the Jacaranda trees, local artisans and renowned creators converge in a beautifully rustic setting, showcasing their unique talents in galleries and retail spaces that invite exploration. The Lumber Yard isn’t just a place to visit; it's an experience that sparks inspiration. There's a palpable energy in the air with co-working spaces encouraging collaboration and artist-in-residence programs fostering mentorship.
Positioned near landmarks like the Bangalow A&I Hall and Showgrounds, The Lumber Yard reflects a harmonious blend of past and present, solidifying its role as a pillar of creativity, sustainability and cultural exchange.
